Clara Veronica Lempka Weakland passed away at Belle Terrace on December 22 at the age of 100. Clara was born to John & Nellie (Syneska) Lempka. She was raised on a farm by Steinauer and later moved to St. Mary. She received an education through the eighth grade.
Clara married Alfred Weakland of Tecumseh in St. Mary on June 28, 1921. Her husband died in Tecumseh on December 6, 1980. Clara was a homemaker her entire life. She loved to crochet and quilt. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church at St. Mary, and St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tecumseh.
Survivors include a son, Norman of Grand Island and daughter-in-law, Jeannette, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Virgil (Genevieve) Begesse. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, one infant daughter, one infant granddaughter, parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh on Monday, December 28, with Fr. John Cooper officiating.
Pallbearers were James Weakland, Jerry Weakland, John Weakland, Jennifer Evans and Julie Edwards. Burial was in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in St. Mary.
