Obituary

DAN MOORE was born February 5, 1927, in Texas City, Texas, and went to be with his Lord on October 5, 2014. Upon graduation from high school, he worked as a postal worker and served in that capacity in the U.S. Army in Los Alamos, New Mexico. In 1956 he joined Monsanto Chemical Company as an operator and worked there in various capacities until he retired in 1982 as an environmental specialist.

Dan married Bennie Jo Ellis on July 20, 1946 in Texas City and they moved to Los Alamos where he was stationed. After his discharge, they moved back to Texas City where they lived until 1985 when they moved to Crockett, Texas. In 2006 they moved to Richmond, Texas, and he lived there until his death.

Dan was active as a participant and leader in Boys Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Dan was ordained as a deacon in First Baptist Church, Texas City, and served in that capacity in First Baptist Church, Crockett and Sugar Land Baptist Church, Sugar Land. He was the church treasurer in Texas City and Crockett and worked with Bennie in the 5-year-old Sunday School class for many years. At Sugar Land Baptist Church, he also served as a greeter on the Welcome Team and worked with the Fort Bend Food pantry ministry. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, telling jokes, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Martha Edgar Moore; his daughter, Denise Moore Hidalgo; and his sister, Louise Moore Warren.

Dan is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bennie Moore, daughter Danna Walton (Alan), son Keith Moore (Myra), son-in-law Gregory Hidalgo (Kay); grandchildren: Jason (Melissa) and Jared (Kendall) Moore, Aleesa (Greg) Griffin, Megan (Ray) Clark, Ellen (Kellen) Vaughan, Jonathan Walton, Marleta (John) Hansen; step-grandchildren: Gary White and Valerie Schuetz; great-grandchildren: Caleb and Cameron Griffin, Daniel and Katin Moore, Ruby, Myer and Mavis Clark, Hudson and Harrison Vaughan, and Hudson Moore; step-great-grandchildren: Jayce White, Jayton White and Bradley Schuetz; nephews: Gary (Marilyn) Warren, Bruce (Peggy) Bristow and Luther Bristow and nieces: Darenda (Neal) Mallard and Carla Hebert and numerous friends.

Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 9, 2014, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit). A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 10, 2014, at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land with Dr. Phil Lineberger officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 PM, at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery, in Hitchcock.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Land Baptist Church, Vision 2020.
