Mary E. Davis was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, March 27, 1830. She was the daughter of Noah and Sarah Davis. She was one of a family of eight children, five daughters and three sons. Her brothers all died in the civil war. Only one sister, Electa Brainum of St. Petersburg, Florida, survives her.

She was married October 2, 1856, in Dearborn county, Indiana to J. C. Jenison, and to this union was born one child, Mrs. L. G. Jamison. They came to Iowa in 1856, locating on a farm in Clarke county, later coming to Weldon in 1894. Her husband died Jan. 16, 1910.

Mrs. Jenison died at noon on Aug. 29, 1917, after an illness of about seven weeks. In all her long life of 87 years, she had never had a sick spell. Her death was an ideal one. No pain nor struggle. She just quietly quit breathing.

The Bible says of the real Christian, “No plague shall come nigh unto thy dwelling.” Surely this promise was fulfilled to this saint of God. She was united with the Methodist Episcopal church when she was 17 years old. Seventy years she lived with God. She talked of her going and was ready. She was truly watching and waiting when her Lord came.

She said of her own life, “As I think over my past life I am not conscious that I ever did a wrong.” It was a most beautiful ending of perfect life.
The funeral services were held from the Methodist church and was in charge of her pastor, Rev. E. J. Laird. Interment was in the Maple Hill cemetery, Osceola, Iowa.
