George Miller Canfield Sr was born on September 15, 1854 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Jackson Bloomfield Canfield (1826–1892) and Catharine Ann (Miller) Canfield (ca 1826– ).
He was married about 1876 to Louisa Alice Disch (1856-1935), the daughter of George Disch (born in Holland).
A merchant living at 217 Woodland Street, Nashville, he was married and 58 years old when he died at home of angina pectoris on September 15, 1912. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery.
