Opal Fern Jenkins departed this earth on 4-4-2006 at 2:44PM. Opal, known as Fern to family members and friends, was born August 7, 1913 to Alexander and Ida Corter. Fern's father died when she was thirteen years old. Although her mother remarried, the step-father died five years later. Fern was still a young woman living at home. She became the bread winner after the step-fathers death, and supported her mother until her mother's death, February 9, 1970. Fern owned and operated a variety store in Lexington, OK for twelve years. After moving to Ada, OK and dealing in Real Estate for awhile, she returned to Lexington and opened a ladies apparel shop, remaining there eighteen years. Fern moved to OKC in 1968 where she engaged in rental property her remaining active years. Fern married Willard Jenkins in 1938. From this union were born two sons, Jerry Don and Larry. She also gave birth to a little girl who did not live beyond just a few hours after birth. Fern loved Jesus and the Heavenly Father with all her heart and soul. She was a member of the Church of Christ and seldom missed a worship service. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; son, Jerry Don; two brothers; one sister and a baby girl. Survivors include her son, Larry Jenkins; grandchildren, Patty, Donna, Billy, Misty, Christina, Michael and Dakota Jenkins; and many great-great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 10AM Saturday, April 8, 2006 at BaggerleySouth Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 1PM Saturday at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, OK.
