John L. Downing, 79, 3017 38th Ave., Rock Island, died yesterday in Americana Nursing Center, Moline.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Phillip H. Frazier, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.
Friends may call after noon today in the funeral home.
Mr. Downing was born on Feb. 17, 1892 in Andrew, Iowa, the son of Frank and Ida Patterson Downing. He married Grace M. Durling on July 21, 1917 in Galesburg.
He was employed for 40 years as a heating engineer at Herman Nelson Company, Moline, retiring in 1960. He was deacon and chairman of the Building Committee at First Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John and Robert, both of Rock Island; one grandson; and two sisters, Helen and Francis Downing, both of Rock Island.
