Miss Helen M. Downing, 82, of 2119 32nd St., Rock Island, died early this morning at her home, following an extended illness.
Private services will be held Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, where burial will take place. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Wheelan Funeral Home.
Miss Downing was born Aug. 1, 1898 in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Frank J. and Ida Patterson Downing. She came to Rock Island as a child and received her education in Rock Island.
She was employed as a child and received her education in Rock Island.
She was employed as a registrar for the Rock Island High School for many years. She also had been employed by the Rock Island School District Board of Education. Later she worked at the former St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island for 10 years in the nursing service, payroll and personnel departments.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Surviving is a sister, Frances I. Downing, at home. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
