Palmer R. "Pal" Bitner BEAR, Del. - Palmer R. "Pal" Bitner, 79, of Bear and formerly of Richfield, Pa., entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was born March 9, 1930, in Richfield, a son of the late William Dewey and Sylvia Mae (Fisher) Bitner. On Aug. 4, 1951, he married the former Sadie M. Goodling, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of 58 years.
Palmer retired after 34 years as head mechanic from Eastern States Construction Company, Inc., Wilmington, Del., and was previously employed with Leister Ford, McAlisterville, Pa.
He was a member of the Antique Truck Company of Newark, Del., and was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, New Castle, Del..
Palmer enjoyed gardening, anything mechanical, mowing and caring for the neighbors lawns and spending time with his family. He was known for his kindness and assisting anyone who was in need.
In addition to his wife, Sadie, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Eileen Kay Rice and Robert "Sonny", of Millerstown, Pa., Darlene Mae and James Cannon, of Bear, and Vivian Laurene Miller, of Middletown, Del.; four grandchildren, James E. Cannon and his wife Claudia, Clita Harvey and her husband Charles, Pamala Miller and Neshia Miller; one great-grandson, Maximus Patrick Cannon; one sister, Fredith Feltman of Middleburg, Pa.; nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends and family are invited for a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Palmer to Oddessy Healthcare, Inc., 1407 Folk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
