He was born in North Carolina and Nash County. The closest modern village to where he would've been born at that time is called Samaria. There were no villages really to speak of in the 1700s when he was born. There were only settlements scattered here and there. He was born in Gnash County North Carolina. His father was Solomon and his mother was Amy. They were also born in North Carolina but the county had not changed names yet the county they were born in was called Edgecomb. It changed names and split into two counties in 1777. So technically, the county that he would've been born in is actually Edgecomb but it's now called Nash.

Ezeliel Moton Strickland was never a US or Georgia State senator or Representative. This is another old family myth. I have researched this and found it to be totally false. I wish that it would stop resurfacing. The Stricklands were respected landowners, patriots, witnesses, preachers, farmers, merchants, tradesmen and craftsmen. A number of them were magistrates and attorneys, but only a select few were politicians, and they are listed here:

Henry Solomon, and Hardy Strickland would be the closest in name during the time period. Ezekiel is not amongst them, nor is his father Solomon or any of his brothers.
I have no idea where this rumor started. I WILL say that I was told by a historian I met many years ago In Georgia that a Strickland from Georgia served in the Confederate States government...so perhaps that is where the legend came from. I have not investigated the Confederacy political records.
