Newspaper Obituary - June 23, 1966 Sandy Creek News - Ira A. Back, 46 Dies June 17th - Ira A. Back, 46, died at his home on the Boylston Center road Friday night, June 17, 1966 at about 6 o'clock. His death was unexpected, since he had not been ill and had worked as usual that day at the Lacona post office where he was employed as postal clerk. He was a lifelong resident of Lacona, where he was born Nov. 6, 1919, son of Carl and Edith Joyner Back. He attended Sandy Creek Central school and was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from Jan. 22, 1942 to Oct. 6, 1945, His overseas service was in the Pacific. He was married Sept. 30, 1946 to Miss Arlene Salisbury, who survives him, with one daughter, Miss Jean Back and a son, Dwight. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Edith Back of Lacona and two brothers, Roderic Back of Lacona and Grant Back of Liverpool. Mr. Back was a postal clerk at the Lacona post office, having been appointed July 29, 1946. He was a member of Cable Trail Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Weston and Woodard Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Bird, pastor of the Sandy Creek Methodist church, officiating. Serving as bearers were Hugh Birdslow, Burns Edick, Raymond Widrig, Walter Cobb, Leland Joyner and Harry Fredenberg. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetry.
