Mary Ann Ankney was born on October 23, 1879, in Emerald Township, Paulding County, Ohio to David Christian Ankney and Amanda Ellen Brown. She married Ezra VanVlerah in 1898. She died on July 5, 1926, in Defiance, Ohio, at the age of 46.

Obituary:

Mrs. Mary Van Vlerah, wife of Ezra Van Vlerah, died at her home, 1015 Sunday Street yesterday at 6:30 A.M. following a months illness with Bright's Disease and Dropsy.

She would have been 48 years old in September. She was born in Paulding County, but has lived in Defiance since her marriage 28 years ago.

She is survived by her husband, 2 sons, Arthur at home and Edward of 1223 Schultz Street and a daughter Ola May at home, 7 brothers Frank, Louis, Lester and William Ankney of Toledo, Albert and Gideon of Defiance, and Jacob Ankney of Coldwater, Mich., 5 sisters Mrs. Tillie Curtis and Mrs. Yetta Hale of Jackson, Mich, Mrs. Malinda Zimmerman of New Washington, Mrs. Clara Evick of Toledo, Mrs. Carrie Long of Carlton, Mich.

She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the United Brethren Church and the Ladies Relief and Benefit Society. Funeral will be held tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. at the home and at 2:00 P.M. at the United Brethren Church with Rev. J.O. Rhoden the pastor officiating, burial with be in Riverside Cemetery.
