Thomas Blanchard, 86, of Harrisonburg, died on Sunday, February 5,
2012, at Avante of Harrisonburg. He was born June 19, 1925, in
Bradford, N.Y., and was the son of the late Joseph and Helen
Koperczak Blanchard. Mr. Blanchard served in the United States Navy
for seven and a half years during World War II in the Asiatic -
Pacific Theater. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1955, with a
degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired in 1989, as an
Electrical Engineer for Corning Glass in Pennsylvania, and moved
back to Virginia. He moved to Harrisonburg last year from
Christiansburg. He was a member of the Lions, VFW, and the United
Methodist Church. Mr. Blanchard traveled with his wife seeing many
parts of the world. An avid golfer, talented Oil Painter, and loved
to Square Dance for many years. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte
Koontz Blanchard, of Harrisonburg, one son, Thomas Blanchard, of
Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Dr. Darlene Kay Blanchard, of
Fredericksburg, and Jacqueline Blanchard, of Blacksburg; three
sisters, Rena Koontz of Elkton, Virginia Boyko of Buffalo, N.Y.,
and Pauline Hamman of Manchester, N.H.; two grandchildren, Ashley
Clark and Danielle Lilley; and two great-grandchildren, Harold
William Clark V and Serenity Clark. Memorial Services will be
conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Kyger Funeral
Home in Elkton, by Pastors Jim Harris and Jim Tongue. The family
will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. before the service. Memorial
donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 3025
