Esther Gulseth, 87, of New Brighton and formerly of Blackduck, died March 14, 2005.

She was born May 9, 1917 to Andrew and Marie Lokken in Bemidji. The family later moved to Tenstrike where she was raised on a farm. She attended grade school in Hagali and high school in Bemidji. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Tenstrike.

She married David Page September 1936 in Fort Luck, Montana, where they lived for four years. They moved back to Hines and bought a farm where they lived until he died in 1970.

She married Clarence Gulseth in 1972 and moved to Blackduck. They worshiped at Zion Lutheran Church and she was active in the community. She participated in Martha Circle and Tri Sigma Study Club and volunteered at the Blackduck Welcome Center, the Blackduck nursing home, was a 4-H leader, worked with hospice in Minnesota and Texas, and with the H.O.S.T. program in Texas where they went into elementary schools and read with the children.

She was a Sunday School teacher for many years at First Lutheran Church in Hines. She was a member of AARP, Sons of Norway, and Blackduck Golf Course. She loved to fish, bowl, golf, sew, play bridge, dance, and travel. She spent many hours doing crafts and loved to swim.

She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and visited Norway twice. She also kept busy working as a waitress and a grocery store clerk for many years. She worked with evergreens in the fall making wreaths in her home for more than 30 years.

The couple spent 22 winters in Texas until their health failed. They did a lot of traveling over the years. Her husband died in August 2004. In March 2002, she moved to New Brighton to be close to her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Richard) Grosklags of Forest Lake; one son, David Page, Jr. of Bemidji; one stepdaughter, Pat (Karl) Kubiak of Bagley; one stepson, Larry Gulseth of Baudette; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; a twin sister Ella (Jerry) Keys of Bemidji, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Arthur in 1958; her parents; one brother, Albert; and three sisters, Edna, Bertha, and Agnes.
