Marie Lokken, 87-year-old resident of Hines, died Sunday Aug. 21 at the Bemidji Hospital

Rev. George W. Gerber officiated at the funeral service held at the First Lutheran Church at Hines. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Blackduck, Snustad Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Donald Tolbert, Herman Gregg, Bryon Johnson, Dennis Tolbert, Robert Gregg and Kenneth Lokken.

Mrs. Lokken was born in Jevnaker, Norway on Aug. 30, 1878. Coming to the United States in 1903, she lived in Bemidji for 11 years before moving to Hagali township.

She married Andrew G. Lokken in August 1905. They moved to Hines in 1949. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1957.

Mrs. Lokken was the oldest active member of First Lutheran Church of Hines. She was a member of the LCW and being very active in handiwork had won many prizes.

She is survived by one son, Albert of St. Paul; five daughters, Mrs. James (Bertha) Hanson, Bemidji, Mrs. Ted (Edna Hendricks, Mrs. Elmer (Ella) Owens and Mrs. David (Esther) Page of Hines, and Mrs. Ole (Agnes) Tolbert of Tenstrike; two sisters, 25 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.

A poem in her memory was composed by Dorothy S. C. Brinning which reads in part: Just away, we will say. A thousand years with God is as one day. But Heaven has "gained" while we remain kept on until we are called." (The Blackduck American, Aug 25, 1966)
