Mrs. Sommer had been a Lafayette resident most of her life. She was a homemaker, music teacher, and owner of the Spinning Wheel Yarn Shop, located first on Fourth Street and later in her home. She was a charter member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, West Lafayette. She was a member of the Tourist Club; Sagamore BPW, where she was named Woman of the Year; and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority Alumni. She was past president of Duncan Community House Association, Lafayette Home Hospital Auxiliary, and the YWCA. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are a son, Jon D. Sommer of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Judy (Mrs. Charles) Pasley of Toledo, OH; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Dr. Robert K. Sommer in 1996.
