SAN ANGELO - "A golden heart stopped beating" Tom Egan was born on Nov. 19, 1929, to Mabel and Tom Egan, and died on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014.
He was born in Runnels County and graduated from Ballinger High School in 1947. Tom was an adventurer in his early life. He left home for New Mexico and the potash mines after graduation. He had part ownership of a Luscombe aircraft and delighted his family over the years with tales of flying. He was a member of the Texas National Guard. He worked for the ASCS USDA for 43 years, as office manager in San Angelo, then district manager for District 11 until he retired. It was while he was working in his San Angelo office that he met the love of his life, Betty Wood. He often told us she had the "best legs in the world." They were married in 1960, and celebrated 54 years together. Tom was very proud of his three daughters and referred to us as "his girls." We will miss him very much.
Daddy was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Egan; his father, Tom Egan; and his sister, Anne Hermann, and her spouse, Henry.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Janiece and her husband, Brian, Trish and her husband, Gary, and Allyson; eight grandchildren, Dylan, Lauren and her husband, Chase, Stephie and her husband, Steven, Samantha, Sierra, Lisa, Jessica and Jacqueline; two great-grandchildren, Harper and Hadley; brothers Jerry and wife Marilyn, Mike and wife Jenny and Dan and wife Josie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a kind and gracious man and he will be sorely missed.
