The funeral of Melvin A. Loven, 72, has been set for Wednesday of this week. Loven, who had been in poor health for some time, died suddenly at his home early Sunday.
Martin's funeral home will be in charge of the rites at 2 on Wednesday afternoon from St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mr. David Vaaler will officiate, & burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Julian Grinna of Decorah, Carl Berg, Art Nesheim, John Schellhammer, Leonard Rolfs, & Lawrence Russell. The American Legion will assist with final rites.
Loven was a native of Allamakee county, where he was born Oct. 16, 1888, son of John & Mary Lystad Loven. He had lived here & in Winneshiek county.
He & Mabel Larson were married here Dec. 20, 1943, & she remains.
Brothers & sisters who remain are Albert Loven & Henry Loven, both of Decorah, Carl Loven of Overland, MO; Julius & Roy Loven of Waukon, Mrs. Anga Saak of Santa Fe, NM; Mrs. Alfred Saak of Burr Oak. A sister died in infancy.
Mr. Loven was educated in the local schools & became a carpenter. He followed this trade until his retirement & made a hobby of fashioning attractive items out of wood in his later years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church & of the American Legion.
