The son of the late Willie and Mahala Fields Strong, he was a retired aircraft worker for Aeronca MFG and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife Mary Thompson Strong; two sons Thurston Jr. and Brenda of Georgetown, KY; Dana Kelly and Katrina of Jackson; four daughters Maria and Gerald Moore of Copeland, KY; Rita and Gary Allen of Whick, KY; Willa Chaney of Wolf Coal, KY; Tina and Sam Herald of Sebastian Branch; two brothers Dewey Strong of Middletown, OH; George Strong of Mississippi; five sisters Reva Smith of Saldee, KY; Duredith Strong of Little, KY; Rachel Matthews, Dora Gault, and Anna Oaks all of Middletown, OH; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother Charlie Strong; one sister Margaret Bellamy and one son-in-law Randall Chaney.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Moore and the Rev. Gary Bellamy officiating.
Burial followed in the Will Strong Cemetery, Saldee, KY with Military Rites by D.A.V. Chapter 64, Hazard, KY.
Watts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were grandsons and Ronald “Tiger” Strong. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie, Delmar, Dennis and Will Strong, David Marinelli and Francis Thompson.
