Dorrance D. Doyle, 2965 St. Anne Drive, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 1998, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Dorrance was a licensed x-ray technician before going to school at the University of Iowa to earn his master's degree in social work in 1959. He was formerly employed with the Veterans Administration, Sioux Falls, S.D. After moving to Dubuque in 1967, he worked with the Catholic Charities as director of St. Mary's Home until it closed. He was lastly employed in the department of psychiatry of Medical Associates from 1968 until retiring in 1994.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1928, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Rachel (Barry) Doyle. He married Margaret A. Schlindwein on June 21, 1952, at St. Joseph's Church, New Hampton, Iowa.

He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Philippines. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish. His enjoyment was being with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret A. Doyle; three daughters, Elizabeth A. Theisen, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Martha A. (Greg) Conradson, of Peoria, Ariz., and Mary A. (Chris) Shey, of Iowa City; two sons, Michael R. (Val) Doyle, of Lees Summit, Mo., and James R. (Tracy) Doyle, of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Kathleen Doyle, of Duluth, Minn., and Veronica (Art) Beneitti, of Belmond, Iowa; and three brothers, Richard "Barry" (Adrienne) Doyle, of New Haven, Ky., Francis (Joanne) Doyle, of Des Moines, and Gerald (Pat) Doyle, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Linda Lee (Dugan) Doyle and a grandson, Matthew James Doyle, both on Aug. 13, 1991; and two sisters, Mary Jane (James) Russell, in 1982, and Madonna (Dale) Binder, in 1974.

A Dorrance D. Doyle Memorial Fund has been established.
