Robert Conkling Holbert was the oldest son of Hezekial Holbert and Fannie Augusta Bowen. Robert was their first born son.

Robert had six younger siblings, four sisters and two brothers. He had a brother, Edward Bowen Holbert who he was very close to in age. As adults they lived just a few blocks from each other in St. Paul, Minnesota. Robert had a younger sister, Mary Estelle (1873-1915), a younger sister, Emma Reets (1879-1879), a sister Helen Mary(1882-1966), and his youngest sister was Winnifred (1884-1974), Robert had a younger brother, James W. Holbert ((1886-1922).

Robert was baptized on Thursday, May 9th, 1872 at St. Stephens Episcopal church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The 1880 census, Robert was living in Williamsport, Lycoming, Pennyslvania. The Census shows him living with her father, Hezekiah (36), his mother, Fannie, his sister, Mary Estelle (6) his brother, Edward (5) and one servant.

On October 29, 1895, Robert married Mae Cannon in a public ceremony in Summit County, Ohio. Their marriage would produce six children. Four who would survive, one who died at a few weeks of age, and one stillborn infant.

The 1900 census shows Robert working as a stock broker and living at 677 Fairmont Avenue with his wife, Mae. The 1900 census indicates that all of his siblings were born in Pennsylvania. So sometime between 1886 when James was born and 1900 the family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota.

The 1904 City directory says he worked as a stock broker at Holbert H and Sons Bankers and Brokers at 341 Robert Street in St. Paul, MN with his father, Hezikiah and his brother, Edward.

In the Minnesota Territorial Census in 1905, Robert was living at 677 Fairmont Avenue with his wife, Mae, his wife's mother Emerine, and a servant named Bridget.

Sometime between 1905 and 1910 he moved to Pasedena, California. The city directory shows that they lived at 945 South El Molina Avenue in 1910.

Robert died in 1944 and is buried in Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, California, in Section D, Plot 1 Grave 245. There is no marker on his grave. His youngest son, Charles Cannon Holbert is buried in the same cemetery.
