GEORGE CRUBAUGH
(1804-1850/60)
George was born in 1804 in East Pennsboro Township, in the old Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Frederick and Ester "Hetty" Crubaugh. His older siblings were Issabe11a, Isaac, and Frederick II.
After moving to Ohio, with his parents and family, George lived in Columbiana County, during his youth in the southeast part of Section 33 in Centre Township, and the balance in Dungannon, in Hanover Township. Dungannon is located about two and one half miles west of Section 33 of Columbiana County. George was a Blacksmith and Farmer.
On November 8, 1825, George was wedded to Elizabeth Atterholt. Joshua Chandler, J.P., performed the ceremony. Elizabeth, born in 1810, in Columbiana County, was a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Atterholt.
George and Elizabeth (Atterholt) Crubaugh were parents of at least nine children. Their first, John, was born on May 9, 1826. Their other children, all born at Dungannon, were: Sara in 1830, Henry in 1831, Rebecca in 1833, William in 1835, Mary A. in 1837, George in 1840, and Joseph E. in 1844. Another daughter, whose name is unknown, was born either in 1832 or 1834. She was demographically profiled in her parents' Household during the 1840 Census, but was not listed with them during the 1850 Census Count.
George was enumerated as Head of Household in Hanover Township-Dungannon -Columbiana County, Ohio, during the 1830, 1840, and 1850 Census. In 1850, three of his brothers-in-law were listed nearby. John Atterholt, a Tailor, was next door; Reason Atterholt, a Carpenter; and Henry Atterholt, a Farmer, were not far away.
George's death occurred between the year of 1850 and 1860, when he was between 46 and 56 years of age. Considering the close proximity of the Trinity Reformed Church Cemetery, and the fact that the other family members were buried there, it seems likely that it was also the final resting place for George. Sometime during the mid 1970's, there was a fire one night at the home of the Township Trustee, who was keeper of all of the Township Records. The Records perished along with the Trustee.
