Mr. Bartley served in WWII as a Lieutenant in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Infantry Reg't, 7th Division. As a combat platoon leader he fought in the Leyte Island, Philippine Campaign from Nov. 23, 1944 through March 15, 1945 when a severe injury secondary to a military vehicle accident ended his combat action.

Following the War he attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) graduating in 1949 with a BS in Agriculture (Horticulture). After graduation he served in the County Extension Service for several years in Dale and Henry counties before becoming Chief of Land Management at Fort Rucker, AL.

Raised in a Christian home, Mr. Bartley accepted Christ as his Savior and Lord at an young age. He was baptized in a creek near Fortson, Harris County, GA. He was a faithful member of the Ozark Baptist Church for decades.
