Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia Lynn Dykes, his parents, James and Elsie Dykes, brothers Ron and Ben Dykes. He is survived by his three children, David (Lori) Dykes, Lynn (Paul) Anthony, Steve (Janette) Dykes, nine grand children, Jordan, Morgan and Caroline Dykes, Will Nelms, Ginny and Evan Welchance, Cailsey Anthony, Claire Highfill and Kyle Dykes; siblings, Mrs. Peg Rutor, Mrs. Deborah Cretors, and Mr. James Dykes, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he adored.

Mr. Dykes was a gentleman and a scholar. He was always interested in how things worked, taking things apart, and putting them back together. He graduated with a degree in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He was proud to be a native of Ohio and frequently discussed the attributes and wonderful memories of his hometown, Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Dykes was an Electrical Engineer and worked for Square D Company for 37 years, before retiring in 2003.

He had a deep love for basketball and sports of all kinds, learning, reading, exploring and solving problems, but his greatest love was for his Lord and then his family. Mr. Dykes was a faithful member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. During his time of membership, he served as an Elder, taught Sunday School, assisted with many committees and always was willing to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed. He was also a family man. Besides his faith, nothing meant more to him than the love he held for his family. He worked tirelessly to provide and care for them, and was faithfully devoted to them until his death.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, October 9, 2014, 5:00-8:00 PM at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, October 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM. with Chris Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
