Funeral services for Arlene McCarthy, 66, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn Bohmer officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery…, Estherville. She died on Wednesday, February 19 [1997] at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 21 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on September 13, 1930 in Dunnell, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Signe (Johnson) Koenecke. She graduated from high school in Sherburn, Minn. She lived in the Sherburn and Dunnell, Minn. Area until moving to Estherville in the early 1950s. She married Merton Roehler in 1950. She was united in marriage to Tracy Allen in 1956 in Jackson, Minn. She worked as a waitress at the Casa Loma and Hamburger Haven in Estherville. She also worked at Butterfield Produce for a time. Tracy died Feb. 1, 1967. On Dec. 27, 1971, she married John McCarthy. She worked at Berkley and Co. in Spirit Lake from 1976 until her retirement in 1993. John died June 24, 1991.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Twyla) Vandenburgh of Glenwood, Minn.; Mrs. Huck (Susan) Tostenson of Estherville; three step-daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Sandy) Sunde of Estherville; Diana Ferrin of Tacoma, Wash; Becky Brame of Tacoma, Wash; four step-sons, Kevin McCarthy of Jackson, Minn.; Mike McCarthy of Jackson, Minn.; Tim McCarthy of Estherville; John McCarthy of Spirit Lake; four grandchildren, Tracy and Amy Tostenson, Derek and Elaine Vandenburgh; several step-grandchildren; and one brother Lavern Koenecke of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, infant twin son and daughter, her parents, one sister and six brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 20, 1997)
