From the Hopkinton Leader, 23 Jan 1936 -- Many old time friends were indeed sorry to learn Monday morning of the demise of H.N. Appleby at the home of his son Harold in Sanford, FL that morning. Mr. Appleby had gone to the home in Nov. to spend the winter months. The trip to the southland was made in company with Mr. and Mrs. John Shover and Mr. and Mrs. U.T. Wheeless by automobile. Mr. Appleby had been in quite frail health for a number of years, having left the employ of J.D. McAllister in Nov. 1932 after suffering a heart attack. Since that time he has been living near Delhi and Hopkinton with his sons, spending the winters in FL. He had been employed by the supply company for 14 years.

A.H.Larkins met an Illinois Central train at Manchester early this and brought the body to the Larkins Funeral Home. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Appleby accompanied the remains to Hopkinton.

Harrison N. Appleby was born in Clayton Co., IA on Feb. 3, 1861. He was married to Miss Etta Chapman on May 15, 1889. His wife preceded him in death July 11, 1924. He leaves to mourn his passing five sons--Cortland of Hopkinton, Walter and Lester of Delhi, Elmer of OR and Harold of FL. Two children, Eugene and Evelyn have answered the final summons. Besides the children named, he leaves two brothers and three sisters...John and Joseph of Monticello, Mrs. Theodore Decker of Cascade, Mrs. Mary McVey of Worthington and Mrs. Hattie Good of Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Jane Gearhart, another sister, met her death in an auto/train accident near Delhi about 4 years ago. Funeral services will be held from the ME Church in Hopkinton Fri. afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. A.B. Soule. Burial in Monticello Cemetery.

The Leader joins in extending condolences and sincere regrets to the bereaved relatives. Mr. Appleby lived an upright life and leaves to the children the memory of a devoted father.
