He was the son of George and Polly Appleby.

MONTICELLO EXPRESS, May 5, 1904
Lorenzo Appleby, well known to the people of the southeastern part of Delaware County, died at Elkader on the 20th of April and the remains werebrought to Sand Springs for interment. The deceased was a native of Oswego County, New York, and was born February 28, 1834.

SAND SPRINGS -- Lorenzo Appleby was born in New York in 1834 and died at Elkader, Iowa, April 20, 1904, from the effects of having a tumor removed.
The body was brought here for burial Thursday night, the funeral being held from the residence at 2:00 PM on Friday, Rev. W.E. Ross of Hopkinton officiating. Interment was made in the the cemetery here. Mr. Appleby leaves a wife and seven children, all of whom were present at the funeral.
The daughters are: Mrs. J.W. McVey of Sand Spring, Mrs. George Good and Mrs. S. Gearhart of Hopkinton and Mrs. Decker of Bernard. The sons are John, Harrison and Joseph Appleby of Sand Spring.
