Ruth Anne Bryan, 58; active in volunteer work
Ruth Anne Bryan, 58, of 1218 Chaney Rd, Raleigh, NC, died July 3, 1994, at Hillhaven Convalescent Home in Raleigh after an extended illness.
She was born in New Castle on Mary 6, 1936, to attorney J. Elder and Ruth E. Callahan Bryan.
Miss Bryan was former member of First Alliance Church, where she belonged to the Sarah Book Bible study and attended Sunday school. She was corresponding secretary of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. For many years, she assisted her mother in teaching Sunday school classes and daily Vacation Bible School at Second Presbyterian Church.
She served with her mother as receptionist at St. Francis Hospital. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the Red Cross, all in New Castle.
She had visited with her mother in the Holy Land and England, and enjoyed Austria, Germany and Switzerland, and most of the 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii.
Survivors include a sister, Jane B. Lynch of San Diego, CA; a brother, Dr J. Elder Bryan Jr. of Downey, CA; three nieces, three nephews, three grandnieces and eight grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rebecca Louise Bryan.
No visitation is being observed. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 am tomorrow at Graceland Cemetery by the Rev. M.E.Nicholson.
Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home Inc, Wilmington Road.
