BRYAN CHILD DIED TUESDAY

First Case of Infantile Paralysis in New Castle Was Fatal.
Rebecca Louise Bryan, aged five years, daughter of District Attorney and Mrs. J. Elder Bryan, of Newcastle, Pa., died at the family home, 914 Morton street, last Tuesday evening, following a brief illness.

The little girl contracted infantile paralysis and all that medical skill could do was done for her, but without avail. This is believed to have been the first case of this dread disease in New Castle since it became prevalent in surrounding counties and states.

Besides her parents she leaves one sister, Nellie Jane, and a brother, J. Elder, Jr., her grandmother, Mrs. Jane Bryan, of Newcastle, and grandfather, A. A. Callahan, of Wellsboro.
Private funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Rev. A. J. Randles, of the Second United Presbyterian church, officiating; burial in Graceland cemetery.

[note: "infantile paralysis" was the original name for poliomyelitis, or polio]
