Marshall G. Dixon, 89, of Allport died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at his residence. Born Feb. 25, 1925 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late David Adam and Belle Shimmel Dixon.
Mr. Dixon was a member of the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Philipsburg. He attended the Philipsburg High School. Mr. Dixon was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a tech sergeant in the Combat Engineers.
He was a member of the BPOE No. 1173, Philipsburg. He was a life-long surface coal miner and worked for various local companies. He was also the co-owner of the D&M Coal Trucking Company for 35 years.
He was married to Agnes Slother Dixon on Nov. 15, 1948 in Philipsburg. She preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2005.
Mr. Dixon is survived by one daughter of Baltimore, Md., and three sons all of Allport, and a son and his wife of Laurie of York.
He’s survived by two sisters and two brothers.
He’s also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria A. Dixon and Bonnita R. Dixon, and one brother, Claude D. Dixon.
At the request of Mr. Dixon, funeral services will be private with the Deacon Dennis Socash officiating. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Morrisdale.
There will be no public visitation.
The Strange & Weaver Funeral Home is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Jaffa Shrine Children’s Hospital, Altoona, PA 16803.
