After graduation he served for the U.S. Coast Guard for 10 years. While serving he met then married Marie Ellen Kelly on Sept. 8, 1984. Mark later attended the University of Southern Maine. There he became interested in teaching and carpentry. Throughout the years Mark worked for a number of local Ellsworth contractors, his biggest carpentry feat being the beautiful house he built for his family. Mark was also a committed and dedicated teacher of carpentry for 12 years at the Hancock County Technical Center, where a number of his students participated in the Skills USA national program.
Marks love for people translated into years of working with the youth in the community, as he was always generous with his time. His most cherished community activities were coaching his three children's sports teams and leading Boy Scouts. Mark celebrated his children's accomplishments on and off the sports field and helped many boys with his kind and gentle manor on their Eagle Scout Projects. Mark loved coaching in the Brewer Youth Hockey League, and helped both boys and girls develop their skating and hockey skills. He was also active on the League Board of Directors. In the Ellsworth community he coached baseball at the middle school, as well as soccer and baseball at the YMCA.
Mark will always be remembered for his love of nature, and his beautiful bouquets of flowers he gifted to many.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Marie; two sons, Eamonn F. Harding of Mansfield, MA, and Owen S. Harding of Ellsworth; a daughter, Margaret "Maggie" E. Harding of Ellsworth; a grandson, Declan M. Harding; his mother, Joan of East Hampton, MA; two sisters, Lisa Harding of East Hampton, MA, and Cindy Thompson and husband, Rob, of Hardwick, MA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his faithful dog, Patrick.
