Joan Marilyn Charette
August 14, 1935 ~ August 4, 2021

Joan Marilyn Charette passed away peacefully with her youngest daughter Lisa by her side in the early morning hours on August 4th, 2021. She was born on August 14th, 1935 in Medford, Massachusetts to John Ralph Rayner and Georgina Mae Wilson.

"Joanie", as she was called by her second husband Norman A. Charette, resided in Easthampton, Massachusetts with her daughter Lisa E. Harding at the time of her death. For many years she and Norman had a custom furniture business in Northampton.

She met and married her first husband, Chatham Police 0Officer, and later Shellfish Constable Edmund C. Harding while they both were working in Sommerville, MA. In 1955 she and Ed moved to Chatham, MA where they raised three wonderful children, Cynthia Jean, Mark Edmund, and Lisa Ellis. Many years after she and Ed had divorced, she met and fell in love with Norman who at the time had a woodworking business in Chatham and in the evenings played the piano at several upscale restaurants on Cape Cod.

Joan was famous for her secret homemade double chocolate brownie recipe that were quickly devoured whenever she visited family. She loved doing jigsaw puzzles, the more complicated the better. However, Joanie's true joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She could go on and on proudly about them.

Sadly, in addition to Norman, Joan was predeceased by her son Mark Edmund Harding in 2014 due to Lou Gehrig Disease (ALS). In addition to her daughters Cindy Harding Thompson and Lisa E. Harding, "GG" leaves behind six grandchildren (Kelly Byrnes, Eamon Harding, Owen Harding, Jonathan Thompson, Margaret Harding, and Elizabeth Thompson) as well as eight great grandchildren.

Grandma Joan will be laid to rest at 11:00 AM on the 25th of August at Seaside Cemetery, Crowell Road, Chatham, Massachusetts in the Harding grave plot on 5th avenue next to her son Mark.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the ALS Association would be greatly appreciated. https://www.als.org/donate
