7-9-2017 Denise Drake Horton states that he died in a coal mine explosion.

1-17-2021-Suggested edit: Peyton and his brother Hobert were employed as coal miners by the Pond Creek Pocahontas Coal Company. They worked together in the Bartley No. 1 mine in Bartley, McDowell County, WV. The brothers were among 92 men killed when the mine suddenly exploded on January 10, 1940. Their names appear together on the left side of the Bartley No. 1 Memorial.
(I uploaded his death certificate and a photo of the memorial. If you select "view original" you can zoom in and view the names.)
