Walter G. Dennis, 85, died Sept. 20, 2014. He was born Sept. 8, 1929 to the late Sigmund and Clara Dennis in Muskegon, Michigan. He married Elsa Batoon in 1975. A resident of Woodridge, Illinois. Dennis retired after a 36-year career with the Illinois Department of Public Aid. He had also worked for Ford Motor Company and Sappi Paper Mill. Dennis moved to the East Side community of Chicago in 1953 after serving in the U.S. Army, studying at the Franciscan Seminary in Wisconsin, and graduating from DePaul University with a bachelor's degree is sociology. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Dennis was heavily involved in community service throughout his life. He served as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, the President of the Fair Elms Civic League, a member of the Annunciata school board, a volunteer with the and a homeless mentor for Daybreak of St Scholastica Catholic Church. Dennis was preceded in death by brother Theodore; sisters Christina Lack and Constance Fritza; and son, Walter Jr. He is survived by wife, Elsa; brother, Norbert; daughter, Teresita Feliciano; son, Joseph; grand-daughter, Tiffany McConnell; and grandsons, Jaydon, Jackson and Matthew Dennis; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral 9:15 a.m. Wednesday from Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien to St. Scholastica Church. Mass 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park. Visitation Tuesday 3:00 9:00 p.m.
