Commanded the True Blue Company of South Carolina and participated in the 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse against Cornwallis. He was badly wounded, losing a leg.

Son of William Lee (sometimes Leigh) Jr. and Margaret McKan Lee. Brother of John, Sarah, Francis, and Infant Lee.

Husband of Susannah Chaffings, with whom he had four sons, and who preceded him in death. Husband of Sarah McMullen (legend has it she was his nurse after Guilford Courthouse), with whom he had seven more children.

Father of Susannah, who married Samuel Kimbrough Barlow and, with her family, founded the Barlow Road over Mt. Hood , the last overland segment of the Oregon Trail.
