Benjamin Hershey was the son of the immigrant Christian Hersche (1664-1720) from Canton Bern, Switzerland and Adelheit 'Oade' Scholli/Schelli (abt 1671 Eggilwil, Bern- abt 1729 Lancaster County). His name has been transcribed from early records as 'Hershey' and Mennonite Vital Records list him as Hershey. He is recorded as 'Benjamin Hershey' in the American Genealogical-Biographical Index. Family genealogies usually list this Benjamin as Hershey and use Hersche or Hirschi for ancestors who died in Switzerland and Germany ot lived most of their lives in Europe where records would use that spelling. For ease in locating individuals in the American branch of Hersheys, I prefer to use this spelling that most are familiar with.

He was the husband of Mary/Magdalena Rhode/Roth (abt 1719-bef 1762). The names Rodt/Roth/Rhodes & Rhoads were all used.

[This cemetery states that it is the same location as Abbeyville Mennonite Meetinghouse Cemetery- which is where Benjamin is buried according to researchers who have cited 'Emigrants, Refugees, and Prisoners' by Richard W. Davis and 'Lancaster County Cemetery Records' by Dr. Shirley A. Harman]

Someone created an improper memorial for his father Christian-224045546. But for anyone interested, I included the number so you can see it.
