Dick Ver Heul, 80, 307 Washington Street, retired City of Pella employee for over 30 years, died suddenly Thursday afternoon May 20, 1976, just exactly a year after his wife's death, while on his way to visit the doctor.

He was born February 18, 1896, at Otley, the son of the late Henry and Mary (Stravers) Ver Heul. He was baptized in the Otley Christian Reformed Church while the family was living there and moved to Pella with his mother following the death of his father.

During World War I, he served in the Army. On September 22, 1926, he married Jeanette D. Synhorst at Oskaloosa.

After he retired from the City of Pella in 1961, he still did some part-time work for the city.

He is survived by six children - Jean A. Ver Heul, Harvey; Mary Ann Ver Heul, Pella; Mrs. Wallace (Joyce D.) Van Wyk, Pella, Dick H., Cedar Falls; Mrs. Dennis (Arvena R.) Van Wyk, Pella; and Mrs. Larry (Alberlene L.) Kinart, Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and a brother Martin Ver Heul, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanette, a granddaughter Lora Ruth Van Wyk, a sister Mrs. Seib (Mary) Poortinga, and a brother Arie Ver Heul.

He was a former member of the American Legion Post 89 of Pella.

Funeral services were conducted May 24 at the Van Dyk-Duven Chapel in Pella with Rev. Wayne M. Hall officiating. Casketbearers were grandsons Daniel Ver Heul, Willis Van Wyk, Richard Ver Heul, Jeffrey Ver Heul, Dennis Van Wyk, and Steven Van Wyk.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Van Veen-Van Hemert Post 89 of Pella.
