When a small boy he came to Wisconsin with his parents, the family settling near Baraboo. At the age of 18 he and his parents took up their residence in the town of Dellona, and he has since lived in that town.

March 19th, 1885, he was united in marriage to Ella J. Eakins. To this union five children were born, namely: Mabel of North Freedom, Wilbur, Alta and Gaile of Beloit, and Sydney, who preceded his father in death 32 years ago.

He has always taken an active part in civic affairs, having served both his town and school district for many years, and as stated above, has been on the board of directors of the Co-operative Exchange.
