Sam Schmidt age 83 of rural Deep River, Iowa died Thursday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa. Burial in the Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River, Iowa. Military graveside rites were performed by members of the Morrison-Schrader Legion Post #296 Deep River, Iowa.

Samuel Joseph Schmidt was the son of Samuel G and Lydia Thompson Schmidt. He attended rural schools near Lynnville. He served his country during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He served in Iran, India, Burma and China. After his discharge he operated a taxi service in Grinnell.

He was married to Delores Tuttle on September 15, 1951. They were the parents of William, Robert and Brenda. He also has a daughter, Sharon, from a previous marriage.

In 1955 they moved to rural Deep River, Iowa where he owned and operated his own trucking businee until his retirement.

He belonged to the American Legion, Morrison-Schrader Post #296 of Deep River.
