Emma Mae Schmidt was born near Lynnville, Iowa the daughter of Samuel G and Lydia Thompson Schmidt. She attended rural schools near her home and later attended Lynnville School.
She was married to Robert Morrison in Newton, Iowa on December 24, 1924. They were the parents of three children: Donald, Virginia and Dorothy. They lived in Newton and later farmed in the Ewart, Sheridan and Grinnell areas.
After the death of her husband in 1968 she moved to Grinnell. She had lived at Friendship Manor since 1981.
