Mary Jenette was born to Percia Sylvania Curtiss and Melvin Peck. She married Dell Knapp May 20, 1885 in Ottumwa, IA. To this union five girls and one boy were born. After making their home in McAlister, NM in 1907 Mary's husband was killed in 1909. She went on to "prove up" the 160 acres of land her and Dell started as well as recieving 320 acres in 1916. A true pioneer with the grit of any man. She never remarried. It must be mentioned that Mary was only about 4' 8". She sold her farm and homestead to her daughter Hazel and Al Akin and retired and moved to Logan.
