Raymond Eugene Bailey, age 91, of Macon, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the Loch Haven Cottages in Macon.
He was born July 7, 1923, in Thayer County NE, the son of Bert James and Allie Mae (Troutt) Bailey. He graduated from the Davenport, NE High School in 1942; and on October 19, 1944, he married Roma Christine (Koinzan) Bailey.
Raymond is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Dixson and husband James of Macon, Roberta Livingston and husband Clyde of Macon; two sons, Bradley Bailey and wife Angela of Macon, Ward Bailey and companion Carolyn Formento of Macon; eleven grandchildren, Mitchell Dixson of Atlanta, MO, Melissa Cox and husband Doug of Norborne, MO, Jamie Pemberton and husband Chris of Centralia, MO, Jay Livingston and wife Shelly of Bevier, MO, Connie Shaver and husband Scott of Minot, ND, Beth Brower and husband Donald of Macon, MO, Brian Bailey and wife Angie of Columbia, MO, Blair Pink and husband Chris of Philadelphia, PA, Dylan Bailey of Columbia, MO, Lenda Fidelman and husband A.J. of Anna, TX and Chris Bailey and companion Ginny Webster of Columbia, MO; twelve great-grandchildren, Grant and Colby Pemberton of Centralia, MO, Dalton Livingston and companion Britni Smith of Bevier, MO, Peyton Livingston of Bevier, MO, Jacob and Jessie Shaver of Minot, ND, Sophia and Coleson Brower (who shares a birthday with his great-grandpa) of Macon, MO, Quinn and Avery Bailey of Columbia, MO, Lance and Jon Pierce Fidelman of Anna, TX; two brothers, Robert Bailey and Roger Bailey of Bevier, MO; one sister, Barbara Fitzsimmons of Excello, MO, and one sister-in-law Patty Bailey of New Cambria, MO, plus several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Bert James Bailey, Jr. and Perry L. Bailey; one sister Marian Hormandl and one great-grandson, Joshua Rhodes Livingston.
Raymond attended a country school a mile away from the family farm. He attended High School at Davenport, NE, where he was active in many sports, receiving awards in track and football. After graduation he worked as a farm and ranch hand and entered the Navy during WWII and received his basic training in Farragut, ID. He was stationed in Hawthorne, NV at the US Navy Ammunition Depot where he loaded and unloaded ammunition. He was discharged in 1946, and returned to Nebraska and farmed for eight years. He attended auctioneer school in Iowa receiving his license. After moving to a farm north of Bevier in 1954 he obtained employment with MoDot retiring after thirty plus years. Raymond enjoyed raising and feeding cattle, fishing, running his dogs, attending his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, and visiting with family and friends. He had a way about him that made each child, grandchild and great-grandchild feel they were his special one. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Macon with Rev. Elden Kohn officiating. Full military services and burial will follow at East Oakwood Cemetery New Addition in Bevier, MO. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Macon, MO.
