Dennis J. Groshek age 71, of Amherst Junction died Tuesday Aug. 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis was under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care Hospice.

He was born Sept. 27, 1942 in Galloway, WI. He is the son of the late Raymond & Regina (Stroik) Groshek. He entered the US Marine Corp on Jan. 6, 1961 in Milwaukee. He was a corporal with the Field Radio Operations Unit. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the M-14 Rifle Expert Badge. He was honorably discharged Dec. 10, 1963 in Quantico, VA.

His marriage to Virginia Kurszewski took place on Oct. 22, 1966 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, she survives. He was employed for Allen Bradley Co. in Milwaukee from 1964 to 1978. He then dairy farmed from 1978 to present.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 509 of Rosholt & the Marine Corp. League.

Dennis had a very analytical mind and could solve just about any problem, whether it was fixing a tractor or dominating a game of pinochle. He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, deer hunting, and giving tractor rides to the little ones. Dennis was a great man and a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Virginia, Five daughters: Lori (Tom) Richter of Rosholt, Vicki (Steven) Allred of Iola, Sara (Luke) Hilgers of Custer, Kari (Ryan) Zdroik of Stevens Point & Amber (Erik) Wenger of Dacula, GA. Seven sons: Dennis (Renee) of Amherst Junction, Donald (Tara Bonnell) of Stevens Point, Derek of West Allis, Dean (Veronica Sankey) of Stevens Point, Devin (Angela) of Custer, Dustin (Megan) of Custer & Darren (Jordan Fochs) of Stevens Point. 22 grandchildren & 3 step grandchildren.

Seven brothers: Raymond (Carol), Ron (Helen), Ralph (Betty), Joseph (Susan), Fred (Elaine), George (Barbara) & Clifford (Bonnie) Groshek. Two sisters: Joyce (Wallace) Bembenek & Natalie (Wayne) Staley. One sister-in-law: Jeanne Groshek. Preceded in death by 2 brothers: Norbert & Mark Groshek.

Funeral Mass 11:00 am Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. Rev. Gregory Michaud officiating. Burial with full military honors to follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at Pisarski/Dzikoski funeral home at 703 Second St. in Stevens Point, and from 9:30 am until the time of services Friday morning at Sacred Heart Church.
