"Many would say that Buck is the best football player to come out of Sumter, S. C. (at least prior to Freddie Solomon). He was no good in high school at a weight of only 115 pounds. But he exploded onto the scene with John Heisman’s Georgia Tech (1916-20) team and became an NCAA All American in 1955."
