Walter F. Wood, 79, of Peach Bottom, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of seven weeks. He was the husband of Minnie Litton Wood. Born in Ashe County, NC, he was a son of the late Jesse and Sara Eldreth Wood. He was a retired fireman at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a member of the Nottingham Baptist Church. In addition to his widow, he is survived by the following children: Vernie Sr., Holtwood R1; Grace, wife of John Barker, Peach Bottom; Lois, wife of Clarence Grayson, Laurel Bloomery, Tenn.; Hazel, wife of Carl Fisher, Quarryville R1; Ruby, wife of Charles Peters, Quarryville; Ethel, wife of the late Eugene Nicodemus, Holtwood; Ray, Lititz; and Donald, Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren. These step-children also survive: Mary Ellen, wife of John Ressler, Craley, Virginia, wife of Charles Kroplesky; Dennis, both of Lancaster; William Sheppard, Pomona, Calif.; Newton Sheppard Jr., Craley; 11 step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and these brothers and sister: William, Christiana, Lee, Landenburg; John, NC, Charles, Lancaster; and Mrs. Effie Eldreth, NC.
