Charles Wood, 75, of 220-A Lee Ave., Millersville, died Tuesday at Lancaster General Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Ruth Eckman Wood. The couple would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in May. Wood was retired from the St. Joseph Hospital maintenance and security department. He was a former member of Lancaster City Auxiliary Police Department and a member of the Millersville Fire Company. Born in Ashe County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Jesse and Sarah Jane Eldreth Wood. He had lived in Lancaster since he was 15. He is survived by five sons: Charles, Manheim; Glenn D., Tipton, Calif.; Ronald R., Landisville; John O., Lancaster; and Robert D., Montgomery, Ala.; three daughters: Geraldine E. Myers, Lancaster; Arlamae B., wife of J. Warren Kutts, Hamptonville, NC; and Ruth E., wife of Lloyd B. Brown, Clovis, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, John O., Warrensville, NC, and Lee, Kennett Square; and one sister, Effie Eldreth, Lansing, NC.
