Clarcia Ione Gillespie Aul, 87, of Taylor passed away August 13, 2014. She was surrounded by her loved ones. She has been missing Duane, her eternal companion of 61 years, who preceded her in death by 2 1/2 years.
Ione was born in Ramah, New Mexico to George Lincoln and Clarcia Hamblin Gillespie on October 29, 1926. Ione and Duane met while growing up in the small farming/ranching community of Ramah, New Mexico. Ione and Duane corresponded by mail while he was serving in the army. They married after he returned from his enlistment for WWII and the Korean War. They were married July 14, 1953 in the LDS Temple in Manti, Utah.
Ione was nurturing and always full of life. These were much needed attributes as she and Duane had and raised 9 children: Gloria (Bill) Hatch, Deborah (deceased) (Gerald) Pearce, Linda (Morin, deceased) Peterman, Milton (Cystaline) Aul, Lincoln (Conny) Aul, Marilyn (Kim) Willis, LaRee (Terry) Godfrey, Tami (Kevin) Slade, and Beth (Lawrence) Holden.
Her family will always remember her as a nurturer, full of love and long suffering. She knew how to let go and move on as holding a grudge was not part of her belief system. She always thought the best of everyone she met and she taught, " If you don't like someone then you don't really know them." She will be remembered as a hard worker and a woman of influence. She was a people person, she never did anything halfway, and the word quit was not in her vocabulary. She went the extra-mile in every area of life including her selfless love for others. Her testimony of the gospel was solid and unshakable as was evidenced through her lifelong Christlike example of putting others needs before her own. She maintained a cheerful and positive attitude while she was bed bound for the last 18 months of her life. As family and friends visited her bedside, her concern was for their comfort and happiness rather than her own situation.
Ione and Duane owned bakeries in Gridley, CA, Show Low, AZ, and Winslow, AZ. Many people have sampled the delicious baked goods made in their bakeries. These recipes had been passed down for many generations in the Aul family. They utilized the opportunity of being self-employed to instill a strong work ethic of integrity in their children.
Ione was in the top 5 sales people for Levoy's Clothing for many years as she held home fashion shows all over Arizona and New Mexico from 1968-1988.
Ione and Duane moved from Show Low to the Phoenix metropolitan area in 1981. They moved to Albany, Oregon in 1997 where they spent 6 years and made many wonderful friends and delightful memories. They returned to Arizona and made their home in Taylor in 2003 to current day.
Survivors include 8 of her 9 children; her sister, Flora Lambson Merrill of Gilbert; 44 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
