Carolyn Sue (Spitzmesser) Shepard, age 81, life long resident of Elwood, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Carolyn was born on November 17, 1932, in Elwood, IN, to Ira and Ethel (Dickerson) Spitzmesser.

On April 20, 1948 she married the love of her life William Donald Shepard. They were married for 54 years before his death in 1999.

Carolyn was an integral part of Shepard Tool, Inc., and also owned and operated Small World, a children's clothing store in Elwood.

Carolyn enjoyed nothing more than being with her family and friends. Her life was a model of her faith and she was a loving benefactor to many. All who knew her were blessed. She enjoyed painting, writing, and traveling to visit her family around the country. She also enjoyed painting and writing.

Carolyn held dear her Bethel Baptist Church and New Beginnings Church families.

Carolyn is survived by daughters: Donita (Ron) Bobel of Mobile, AL, Patricia (Chris) Juday of Elwood, IN, Sheryl (David) Stowers of Depauw, IN, and Nancy (Art) Dudley of Lyons, CO and son-in-law Kent Trentman of Elwood, IN; 16 grandchildren: Kristin (Danny) Carlson, Eric Bobel, Scott (Lisa) Juday, Michael Juday, Kimberly (Jeff) Mader, Aleshcha (Chuck) DeWitt, Stacey (Greg) Hofer, Jessica (Franki) Gonzalez, Jason Blackford, Aaron (Cheryl Lynn) Blackford, Carolyn Elder, Clint (Ellie) Dudley, Rachel (Darren) Hirschfeld, Julie (Abe) Vasquez, and Casey (Branden) Lohr; 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Noel (Marge) Spitzmesser; 2 sisters, Joan Ford and Joyce (Cliff) Brown; many nieces and nephews, and her constant kitty companion, Sweetie.

She is preceded by her loving husband, William D. Shepard, dear daughter, Colleen Trentman, son-in-law Dale Blackford, grandson Shawn Blackford, her parents; 1 sister, Carmen Bauner, and 2 brothers-in-law, Albert Ford and Bill Bauner.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Dr. William Noblitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 noon.
