Joan Spitzmesser Ford passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood, Indiana, following a brief illness and a long, fulfilling life.

She was born on March 17, 1926 in Rigdon, Liberty Township, Grant County, Indiana, the daughter of Ira and Ethel Dickerson Spitzmesser.

Joan was a 1944 graduate of Elwood High School.

She married Albert L. Ford on May 20, 1944, and they shared more than 68 years of life together before his passing in 2012.

Joan and Albert were former members of Bethel Baptist Church in Elwood where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also formerly active in the Fifty Plus Club and had been a Brownie Scout leader.

Joan was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed using her binoculars to keep track of the birds on her property. In addition, she loved flowers, working jigsaw and word search puzzles, and making cookies and candies. She was an excellent seamstress and made many pieces of clothing for her family throughout the years.

Joan's surviving family includes two daughters, three granddaughters, five great grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, two sisters, two nieces, three sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law.
