Charles Rousseau Ray, Sr., 82, died February 12, 2006 at Hospice Savannah after a brief illness. Charlie was a native of Savannah, attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1941, where he held the rank of Cadet Major. He attended Spring Hill College in Alabama and then served his country in World War II as an Army Lieutenant. He was a Prisoner of War in Germany for four months until the end of the War. The United States Army awarded him the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He served as a Captain in the 117th Georgia Air National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Charlie was employed by Union Camp Corporation in the Mill Planning Department and retired after 36 years of service. He was a founder of TV Center and later became the company President. He was President of the Benedictine Athletic Association and the winner of the Stephen S. Koszewski Award for Loyalty, Service, and Devotion to Benedictine Military School. Charlie was a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 631, a member of the Hibernian Society, and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. In 1989 he led the St. Patrick's Day Parade as Grand Marshal. He was a communicate of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and a former communicate of Our Lady of Lourdes and The Cathedral of St. John The Baptist. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Mathias Mahany Ray and Vivian Rousseau Ray, his sister, Elizabeth Ray Cromartie, and his wife, Gloria Aprea Ray. Surviving are his wife, Betty R. Ray, sons, Charles R. Ray, Jr. (Sandi), William S. Ray (Carol), and James A. Ray, all of Savannah, daughter, Nancy R. Johnson, of Brunswick, brother, Mathias Mahany Ray, Jr. of Texas, a cousin, Charles D. Rousseau of Savannah, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Patrick O'Brien Celebrant, assisted by, Father Joseph Smith, Father Michael Kavanaugh and Father Jude Brady. Interment: Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, James Stafford, Charles Rousseau, Bob Alonso, Tommy Brunson, Tom Dubberly, S.T. McTeer and M.A. Spellman. Remembrances: Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O.
