Christine Violet Hensley, 75, of McGaheysville, departed to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 14, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Hensley was born on October 4, 1922, in Elkton, VA, and was the daughter of the late Addie and Henry Dean. On January 18, 1939, she married Clyde G. "Bill" Hensley, who survives.

She was known for her devotion to her Lord and Savior, her husband, family and friends. She always placed the cares and concerns of others in front of those of her own. Even during her extended illness she continued to bless others with her warm smile and undaunted faith in her Lord, who had been her friend for so many years.

Mrs. Hensley was a member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church, where her work and tireless passion for her church will be forever missed. At Mt. Olivet Christian Church, she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the Mt. Olivet Ladies Fellowship and was a member of the church choir for many years. She had shared her faith and love of the Lord with many and through her, many have come to know and be saved by Him. Along with her work in the church, she worked at Sancar in her early years and then worked for Sunnyside Presbyterian Home for nearly 20 years. Her work at Sunnyside was a true love of hers. She enjoyed caring for and attending to other's needs.

Also surviving are five daughters, Janice and husband, Jim Shifflette; Elaine and husband, Bobby Diehl, all of McGaheysville; Doris Shifflett, Harrisonburg, Barbara and late husband, Ralph Redifer, Elkton; Judy and husband, Billy Keyser, Richmond; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Shifflett and Pearl Royer, both of Grottoes and Margaret Shifflett McGaheysville; two brothers, Elwood Dean, Elkton and Earl Dean, McGaheysville.

She will be joining both Ralph Redifer, son-in-law, and Brian Keyser, grandson, who have previously gone to meet the Lord.

Pastor, friend and brother in the Lord, Wayne Wright, will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Mt. Olivet Christian Church near McGaheysville. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 this evening (Monday) at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home at Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Hensley had requested that contributions be made to the Mt. Olivet Christian Church Ladies' Fellowship, care of Rosie Hensley, Route 2, Box 307A, Elkton, VA 22827 in order that a memorial fund may be organized to recognize those loved ones who have passed on to join her and her lord.
